No more applications are being accepted for 2008.  The winner will be announced at the high school awards assembly at the winner's school. However, we encourage those who will be eligible next school year to apply early for the 2009 scholarship.

Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church of Abingdon, VA is pleased to announce the establishment of the Elizabeth "Jackie" Musser College Scholarship that will be awarded annually, beginning in the Spring of 2008.

Elizabeth Smith “Jackie” Musser was born in Abingdon, Virginia in January of 1920.  She became a confirmed member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in 1932.  She was a very active member of the Church serving as elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher, chairman of the Education Committee, and Presbyterian Women circle leader.  She was married to John P. “Jack” Musser and raised two daughters, Suzanne and Libby, in the Church.  She was always interested in the Youth of the Church and the community.  She served as a Girl Scout leader, PTA chairman, and Red Cross representative.  Her home was always open for Easter Egg Hunts, picnics, plays in the living room, and snacks in the kitchen.  Jackie would be very honored to have this scholarship awarded in her name to a deserving high school student.

Applicant must:

1.  Be a graduating senior who has been accepted to an accredited Community College,  University or    Vocational School.
2.  Have a 3.0 (B) average in High School.
3.  Be an active member of a Christian Church in Washington County Virginia.
4.  Write an essay of 500 or more words on "What My Church Means to Me."
5. Be nominated by letter from his/her Pastor, Christian Education director, or Youth Minister.
